last summer when i heard it, i really wasn’t too hot on Bruce Willis Is Dead, the first track to appear off the forthcoming record, Lamb’s Anger. it made me a little wary of the direction Mr. Oizo might have taken in the years we’d heard so little from him.. too trancy for my ears. but boy i am pleased to be proven wrong. Lamb’s Anger is a killer record and this track is where groovy’s at right now.

just a quick one today as it is very busy times putting in our next show at the theatre, but it is certainly worth flagging the fact that there is a new Matthew Herbert Big Band record out this week, There’s Me And There’s You. there is plenty to read about it at Stereogum and Pitchfork so i won’t rehash old material, but this is a real nice smoky blues bedroom-jazz version of The Story off the record.

so he has released his first full length album and posted all 10 tracks of it to his myspace page for free download in .rar and .zip compressions and it is a delightful blend of glitch, synth, ..well, as the blog swedesplease puts it, “c64 meets skweee meets Japanese hip hop.” yup that about covers it.
and not only do i love the sounds and the range he covers but i also love what he’s done offering it up for free, not unlike what fellow swede Beem did with his incredible record The Future. i mean, c’mon. these guys bleed. they really mean it.
